Every
website is different and you will choose what you need in your website.
The minimum size for a website can be just one page, but regardless of
size there are certain things that should appear - even on the smallest
website.
Whatever you decide to place in your website, you can be sure that Image
Website Design will be here to keep you on the right track.
Making My Website
Work
Making a good website
is down to careful design and planning. Image Website Design take care
to talk to all our clients to ensure that the website we create is tailor
made to their needs. The first hurdles which most clients encounter is
to decide how many pages they want, and what type of content to place
in their website.
We hope these 13 key points will help you in the fundamental design stages.
- Professional
appearance:
Most websites don't need flash effects or dazzling visuals, however
your internet presence should be perceived as a legitimate site, built
by someone who cares about the content and appearance. In other words,
the colors and graphics should blend well with one another. In addition,
all web-content should be dynamic and checked for grammar or spelling
mistakes. Any images on the page should enhance the experience for your
visitors without distracting them.
- Navigation:
The pages on your website should be easily connected, using clear navigation
buttons. Make it easy for your visitors to find the information that
you want them to read.
- An obvious
theme: Your first page should immediately let the visitor know what
you are selling or promoting. Usually the best way to do this is by
briefly describing the purpose of your website and include product photos
that can help people understand your purpose.
- A logo:
One of the best ways to "brand" your site and remain unique
is to have a logo for your Internet business. By having a logo, your
website is more likely to make an "impression" with your visitors.
Any logo used needs to be consistent with the theme and color scheme
of your site - see also our page on Logos.
- Contact information:
The credibility of your business comes from displaying your contact
details. Eventually, your website visitor will have a question for you.
Because of this, it is vital that you list all possible ways that they
can reach you. By creating a contact page, you will be able to answer
enquiries and reinforce the fact that there is an actual person behind
the website. Place your contact information on every page, if you can,
since it gives credibility to your website.
- Contact forms:
In order to find out what your customers need, it is important to solicit
feedback from them. A common way to do this is by creating a contact-form
on the site. Many people will use the form if it is made available to
them, whereas they may not choose to pick up the phone to talk to you.
- About us:
Most website visitors appreciate knowing that a business is run by an
actual human being. To help personalize your website, you need to include
a little information about both you and your business.
- Sales page:
Its surprising how often you come across a website that forgets to dedicate
space to its prime objective - promoting a product or service. Even
with the best product descriptions, it's important to create a dedicated
page that describes how your products or services are superior to your
competitors. This section should be a summary of all your key features
written dynamically. Basically, you want your visitors to read this
page and be enthused enough to want to use your services.
- Portfolio or
testimonials: One of the best ways of showing people what you can
do is to provide a list of previous clients, or a showcase of previous
work, or some actual written testimonials from previous clients about
"how good you are". Don't be afraid to 'blow your own trumpet'
- this is your opportunity to show off !
- Terms: Being
up-front with your customers helps to gain their confidence, and creates
credibility in your business. Don't be afraid of displaying your Terms
and Conditions of business where everyone can see them.
- Privacy:
Many people are now reticent to give out personal information such as
their e-mail address. To help alleviate this fear, you may choose to
include a "Privacy Policy" section. Basically, this will let
your customers know how all information is used and if they will be
contacted in the future. It is better to be upfront about your practices
rather than to be accused of mishandling information.
- FAQs: There
will be times when your visitors have a question that is not covered
by the standard descriptions or sales pages. To help them out, you may
want to have a section that is devoted to answering common questions.
By creating a FAQ page, your potential customers can easily find the
answers to their questions and will be more likely to use your services.
- Keywords: Search
engines produce their seach results based to a certain extent on keyword
useage in the website. Image Website Design (IWD) will place keywords
into the Description tags, and Alt tags
etc, but feel free to remind us about these if you think they may have
been overlooked.
Use
your keywords in text early, and often (2/3 times per paragraph, or
3% of text)
Put your keywords in bold
text in several places on the page
Use your keywords in text
links for all links - inbound and outbound
Make sure you use your keywords
in heading tags

information to help you formulate your initial thoughts about website
